The Hut

Our Story

The Hut is a children and youth centre (5 to 17 years old) nestled in Marine Parade.

At The Hut, it is a community for children and youth to feel safe, belonged and supported.

We run drop-in, educational programmes as well as whole-child developmental programmes so that every child can grow and flourish in their unique pathways. We also encourage our children and youth to contribute and serve actively so that they can go on to transform the lives of others.

Vision

Our community for children and youth to pursue their dreams with a heart to serve.

The Journey

"How can we empower these children to achieve their maximum potential, thereby setting them on a course toward social upward mobility?"

Inspired by the question of empowering children for social mobility, the family-centric pilot program EduGrow for Brighter Tomorrows* initially served 28 young children in 2016 and expanded to 45 by 2017. By 2019, the question evolved to how we could do even more for our growing community. Supported by families, local grassroots, and partners, EduGrow transformed into the independent organisation we now know as The Hut.

*EduGrow for Brighter Tomorrows is a joint programme with Life Community Services Society.

How It Started

2016

EduGrow for Brighter Tomorrows (EduGrow) was launched in 2016, with 28 Kindergarten 2 and Primary 1 children from 24 families.

2017

EduGrow, as a family programme, expanded to take in Primary 2 to Primary 6 siblings. 2018 EduGrow established itself as a trusted children’s programme within the Marine Parade Community.

2019

Groundwork started to assess the feasibility and demand of expanding EduGrow into a drop-in centre.

2020

The Hut was incorporated and received Charity and PC status (202007365W) in 2021 with 130 children and youth members, and running over 10 regular programmes.

2022

The Hut expanded to a team of five, serving over 180 young individuals.

2023

The Hut expanded to a team of six, serving 230 children and youth members, and has expanded our coverage of holistic activities to include a broader educational curriculum, emotional intelligence workshops, and diverse community service opportunities.

Be part of our mission. Get Involved.

They say it takes a village to raise a child. By donating or volunteering, we can make huge strides in encouraging social mobility and providing opportunities for all Singaporean children to achieve success, regardless of field. Take action today to change the many tomorrows of the children.

We are a team of passionate dream-makers empowering vulnerable youths to transform their futures.

Testimonials

"EduGrow has helped to provide my children with a personal mentor to guide them along their studies and personal growth."

This has been helpful as I am a working single parent. I am very grateful to all the staff, previous and present, giving all the children their time, guiding them, patiently listening and speaking to them. From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you to Nancy, Derrick, Liwen, Nadia and Fei Ting, all staff and mentors. Once again, thank you so much for everything EduGrow and The Hut do for our family! All the best and keep going.
